Figurative abstract I and II
Two seemingly abstract pieces which actually depict a detail of a cartoon portraying the bishop Ursu of the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe of Ravenna.
Before the spread of photography, in order to faithfully capture the image of mosaics to be restored, artists created a painting of the same, which then served as a basis for future restorations. Both mosaics pay homage to the cartoon created by a mosaic restorer at the start of the Twentieth Century.
